St Theresa of Calcutta Parish Iba-Pope Awada
ST THERESA OF CALCUTTA PARISH:
Formally an out-station of Holy Trinity Parish Iba-Pope Awada favourably called Ward 2 then, St Theresa of Calcutta on the 28th of September 2016 was pronounced a parish by the Archbishop of Onitsha and metropolitan of Onitsha ecclesiastical province His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Valerian M. Okeke. The parish commenced activities immediately with full functionality of all statutory organisations in place. The Lectors Association were not left out as the major ministry required to institute a parish.
The association was then led by Mrs Odinaka P Asiegbu as first president while Mr. Chinedu Ngorka assisted her, and Mrs Olivia Uzor as the first Secretary. Going forward, Mrs Asiegbu relocated away from the environment and could no longer perform the task of the president from afar, A new election was conducted which saw Mr. Oscar Ngorka emerge the new President while Mrs Ekemezie Henrietta assisted him and Mrs Olivia Uzor remained the secretary. Further into the years, Mr. Ngorka again relocated away from Awada and had Mrs Ekemezie Henrietta complete their remaining one year of office while a fresh election was conducted which saw Mrs Ekemezie Henrietta emerge as the new President with Mrs Olivia Uzor remaining on the secretarial duties. In 2022 after the expiration of their 3 years tenure, the latest election conducted saw Mr. Agbanwodikeizu Obinna emerge as the new president with Mrs Olivia Uzor assisting him. On the secretarial office, Miss Nnadozie Tochukwu took over the office with Miss Okolie Chinasa assisting her.
The Catholic Lectors Association of Nigeria CLAN of St Theresa of Calcutta Parish Iba-Pope Awada is however, responsible to the proclamation of the first and second readings in all of the Sunday and weekday masses in the parish.
In St Theresa of Calcutta Parish Iba-Pope Awada, the following masses are celebrated on dailies
SUNDAYS
5:30am in the Parish
6:00am St Francis of Assisi out station.
7:30am in the Parish
10:30am in the parish
06:00pm in the parish.
WEEKDAYS MASSES
Mondays to Fridays 5:30am and 6:00pm
Saturdays 5:30 am and 6:30am.
The association ensures that the readings are proclaimed in every of the parish masses without lapses. Whereas morning prayers is also part of the morning mass activities on weekdays masses.
The Deanery President Mr. Duru Osinachi is a member of the parish and emerged the ranks through representing the parish at the deanery meetings.
St Theresa of Calcutta emerged the winner of the deanery quiz competition hosted in the parish debut in the meeting. This ensured they competed at the higher level in Onitsha region where they emerged with a 4th position mark. The parish association brags only with about 25 member from those within and outside the shores of the parish.
The parish is among the third generation parishes of the mother parish IBA POPE and hopes to someday begot a child having created a vibrant out station in ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI popularly called community 4.
